Kosmas' Conduct Could Bring Ethics Scrutiny
"She should not be cashing in from the same industry whose vote she holds in her hands.”

Yesterday, Democratic Congresswoman Suzanne Kosmas, representing Florida’s 24th district, announced a “Financial Services dinner honoring Rep. Kosmas”. An e-mail from Molly Allen Associates stated that the dinner, originally scheduled for this evening, had been rescheduled for July 14th at the swanky Belga Cafe. However, the e-mail pleads for dollars today to beat the June 30th reporting deadline. This dinner is being announced just prior to a vote on landmark legislation involving the Financial Services industry that loosens restrictions on insurance companies..
The Washington Post reported from June 16, 2010 that the “Office of Congressional Ethics is investigating eight lawmakers who held fundraisers within 48 hours of a major House vote on a Wall Street reform bill or received substantial donations from business people with a financial stake in the bill.”
Jon Miller, campaign spokesman for the Craig Miller for Congress campaign asked, “How is what Suzanne Kosmas done any different? I understand that Nancy Pelosi wants to protect her vulnerable Freshman Democrat, but the voters are sick of this kind of horse-trading in Washington. Our campaign is asking that the Office of Congressional Ethics add Suzanne Kosmas to their investigation. She should not be cashing in from the same industry whose vote she holds in her hands.”
